French gite - self catering cottage holidays in Charente

The entrance opens into the spacious Living room with exposed old oak beams and the original "Coeurs de demoiselles" ("Maidens hearts") stone floor. There is a large fireplace that is now equipped with a modern, efficient log burning stove - very cosy if the occasional early or late season evening is a bit chilly. The modern flat-screen TV receives UK channels (BBC, ITV, Ch4 etc.) via satellite and non-subscription French terrestrial digital channels.

The kitchen area is comprehensively equipped and includes a gas cooker with oven and grill, refrigerator with freezing compartment and a microwave. The dining table seats 4 and there is a sofa in the sitting area.


La Petite Maison (The Small House) is in fact deceptively spacious with a living room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's history is uncertain but it probably was once a farm workers cottage. Dining area	Stairs lead from the living room directly to the upper bedroom which has two single beds plus the usual storage facilities. Please note that this room has restricted head-height at the eaves. Through an archway from the living room is a lobby area and the first bathroom with toilet, washbasin and thermostatically controlled shower. Leading from the lobby is the ground floor bedroom. This is a large room with exposed beams and triple french doors leading onto the garden and courtyard. It has a double bed and the usual storage facilities together with its own en-suite bathroom again with toilet, washbasin and thermostatically controlled shower. We provide all bedding and also bath and hand towels. Additional equipment includes a clothes airer, ironing board and iron. There is a radio/CD player but please bring your own CDs (our musical taste may not be to your liking!). Outside there is a patio table and chairs and a BBQ for those long warm summer evenings. La Petite Maison is available either as a 1 bedroom unit (low season only) with the upper bedroom and first bathroom (sleeps 2) or throughout the year with both bedrooms and bathrooms (sleeps 4).
